Remove a User Lock

After multiple failed sign-in attempts, Maintenance Connection locks the user account. If a user has access to multiple databases (entities), a locked account prevents access to all associated databases. In most cases, the account unlocks automatically after 15 minutes.

If the account remains locked after 15 minutes, administrators can use the Password management tool to remove a lock manually.

Unlock a user account manually

  1. Select Tools > Members > Password management from the Main menu.

  2. Locate and select the user you want to unlock.

The Edit member window opens. The password fields are blank.

Accessing the Edit member dialog requires you to reset the member's password. Because lockouts are often caused by forgotten passwords, resetting the password helps prevent repeated lockouts. The user can sign in with the temporary password and then change it from their security profile.

  3. Enter a temporary password in the Password fields.

  4. Select Unlocked.

  5. Select Apply.

    The user account is unlocked.

Edit the Max failed logins value in Member preferences to prevent accidental lockouts for users who frequently mistype.

You can also use Password management to lock a user account manually. However, a locked user cannot sign in to any database (entity) they can access.

To prevent access to a specific database only, disable the member record in the Member module instead. This restricts access to that database without affecting the user's access to other databases.
